The driving instructor trainee licence allows candidates to work for payment for a driving school whilst preparing for the instructional test. To be eligible for the licence you must undertake 40 hours of training and be sponsored by the driving school. A further 20 hours of training must be undertaken during the first 3 months of the licence or before you take part 3 of the exam, whichever is the sooner.
You will need the ADI starter pack (ADI 14) and the ADI application form (ADI 3) which can be downloaded online.
This document outlines the structure of the qualifying examinations and contains instructions and contact numbers for the preliminary Criminal Records Bureau (DBS) check. As this check is being processed you can be studying for the qualifying examination which is in 3 parts. All three parts must be passed in sequence and within a timeframe of 2 years.
